A Square in Every Neighborhood

Introduction

Lisbon City Council is the executive body that represents the municipality and aims to define and implement policies with a view to defending the interests and satisfying the needs and expectations of citizens. It seeks to promote the development of the municipality in various areas such as social action, culture and science, consumer protection and so on.

Recognized as the largest in the country, it is based in Lisbon's Paços do Concelho building, located in Praça do Município. The Lisbon City Council is always on the lookout and, in this sense, its communication is carefully crafted with the aim of attracting the public, which led it to research new communication tools that allow it to do just that.

Opportunity

The "A Square in Every Neighbourhood - interventions in public space" program consists of using a square, a street, a shopping area, a neighborhood garden, or an existing or planned piece of public equipment to organize a meeting point for the local community, where soft modes of transport, walking and bicycles, and public transport are privileged, taking into account that car traffic is restricted. In this way, an innovative solution was sought that would allow the development of the project itself to be communicated with the population.

Solution

The Lisbon City Council then wanted to communicate the project under development. As such, the 3Decide team developed a virtual tour, using photographs, showing the various interventions carried out in Lisbon's public spaces, so that the public can observe and navigate the experience, having access to the before and after of the requalifications. This experience also highlights the improvements made as part of the intervention program. This virtual tour provides an immersive experience, as it allows people to explore the city's transformations and closely monitor the existing improvements.
